Mission Australia is inviting schools and early learning centres in the Midcoast area to take part in a new community wellbeing program that will teach positive and practical mental health strategies to help to help strengthen the resilience of local children and young people.

The Resilience Project is an evidence-based, practical mental wellbeing program aimed at children and adolescents and is based on research that shows the more positive emotion experienced by an individual, the more resilient that person will be. The program’s focus is on three key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness as well as a strong focus on Connection, Purpose, Kindness, Emotional Literacy and Physical Health.

The program will benefit children and young people impacted by the 2019-20 bushfires, COVID-19 and flooding earlier this year. It will also promote positive wellbeing more generally and will be rolled out with the support of Mid Coast 4 Kids.

Mission Australia will facilitate the take-up of the program in eight early learning centres as well as eight primary/ high schools across the Mid coast LGA. The program is FREE with priority given to schools and early learning centres in bushfire impacted areas.

Mission Australia will cover the full cost of the program, which will largely be digital content as well as a journal for every student. There will be a school presentation visit from The Resilience Project Education Team to launch the program in Term 1 of next year.

You can read more about how the Resilience Project came about, it’s foundations and objectives and evidence-based alignment by visiting  The Resilience Project website.

COSTS/RESOURCES:
Mission Australia is covering the full cost of the program, which will be mostly digital content as well as a journal for every student in primary school.

TIMING:
We are aiming to kick this program off in Term 1 next year and are currently negotiating for a school presentation visit from The Resilience Project Education Team to launch the program in Term 1 of next year across two sites. We will be engaging with our eight participating schools to achieve the most suitable time for this visit.

Mission Australia Taree is coordinating the delivery of this project and are now reaching out to our local schools and early learning centres to come on board with a formal expression of interest / commitment to participate. The funding only covers eight primary and secondary schools so we encourage our local schools to get in fast.

Early Learning Centres and schools (both primary and secondary) can register their interest in the program by contacting our Project Coordinator, Val Schaefer at SchaeferV@missionaustralia.com.au. We will then send you an information package and an expression of interest document to complete.

Alternatively, for more information and a chat about the program you can contact Val on 0429 226 020.
