The Mid Coast has been challenged a lot in recent years, we have experienced severe drought, catastrophic bushfires, major flooding and COVID-19. Mission Australia and Mid Coast 4 Kids, with funding from MidCoast Council have given first responder organisations the opportunity to hear the voices of children and young people in disaster response and resilience planning.
Children and young people had the opportunity to share their experiences and engage in a range of design thinking excercises to help improve preparedness and response strategies of the respective organisations.
A knowledge translation film is in production and we will soon extend on this work, meeting with organisations to facilitate the uptake of these ideas. We believe children and young people have a right to influence the decision making that impacts their lives.
