There is a crisis in the availability of allied health services across the Midcoast with employers having to advertise positions for two to three years without success.
Wait times for services are also up to 18 months and this has a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of our community.
In recent weeks we have brought together key organisations ready to do things differently to solve this problem. Among the organisations are NSW Health, MidCoast Council, Taree Universities Campus, Mission Australia, the The University of Newcastle, University of New England, the Department of Social Services and Northcott.
Drawing on insights from a broader community stakeholder workshop, the group identified key strategic pillars or focus areas as well as a range of strategies on which we will now focus.
This issue is so complex and multifaceted, a coordinated, whole of community approach is the only way forward. Our aim – to make the MidCoast a center for excellence for the training, recruitment and retention of allied health professionals.
